As I conduct searches across the Internet, I come across a number of great sites that I want to share with you.  These sites are not necessarily related to grants but are a wealth of information for teachers and other educators.

ALA's Best Free Reference Web Sites

This is an annual series initiated under the auspices of the Machine-Assisted Reference Section (MARS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) of ALA to recognize outstanding reference sites on the World Wide Web. 


The ABCs of “AYP” Education Trust’s publication, The ABCs of “AYP,” is an 8-page guide designed to summarize the accountability requirements of Title I, Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act by breaking it down into five steps. The guide also addresses a number of misconceptions that are prevalent regarding what adequate yearly progress is and how far the federal government’s finger extends into the business of state and local governments.

The Busy Educator's Guide to the WWW

Find reviews of software, books, and educational games as well as links to recommended teacher, student and parent sites.


Classroom Connect

This site is devoted to Internet-based curriculum and training for K-12 educators, students, and parents.  When visited in May 2001, this site has become fee-based.


Connect For Kids

Sponsored by the Benton Foundation, Connect For Kids: Guidance For Grownups is a virtual encyclopedia of information for adults who want to make their communities better places for kids.


The Constitution Community

The Constitution Community is a partnership between classroom teachers and education specialists from the National Archives and Records Administration. Lessons and activities that address constitutional issues, correlate to national academic standards, and encourage the analysis of primary source documents are being developed. The lessons that have already been developed are arranged according to historical era.


D & W's Elementary Teacher's Resources

A collection of ideas and assistance for student teachers, new teachers and experienced elementary teachers.

This site has a variety of useful information, especially for those interested in special education.


Education Commission of the States

The mission of the Education Commission of the States is to help state leaders identify, develop and implement public policy for education that addresses current and future needs of a learning society


Education Planet

The education web guide:  helps teachers, students and parents find a wide variety of the best educational resources available on the web from top websites, software, videos and supplies to lesson plans, maps, news and books. Education Planet also provides the educational community with services such as online forums, online teacher training, sites of the week and web tools tailored to the unique needs and interests of teachers, students and parents.

Gateway to educational materials. An excellent resource for educators and parents. Has links to resources from more than 140 Web sites, all classified by grade level and topic. (Partnership between the Department of Education and Syracuse University's ERIC Clearinghouse)


Internet Resources for Nonprofits

Great web sites about Grants and Grantwriting are provided by Internet Resources for Nonprofits. Collected by an experienced grant writer and grant reviewer, Grants and Grantwriting links are available solely to sites containing free information, directory and 'how-to' sources. It is only one topic area within Internet Resources for Nonprofits, a massive directory of over 700 annotated resource links particularly useful to nonprofit agencies and their staff, volunteers and community leadership. There are no advertisements and no commercial connections on this site.  All links have been collected by a volunteer professional in the field and includes an extensive selection of online resources for people who seek free access to professionally related topic areas including: fund raising, grants, boards, management and leadership, prospect research, technology, children and youth, education, volunteerism, evaluation and outcomes and more.


K-12 Practitioner's Circle

A new National Center for Education Statistics site especially for K-12 teachers, administrators, policymakers, librarians, counselors, aides, and parents.


The Knowledge Loom

This site offers a growing searchable collection of promising practices on a range of topics; special focus on professional development that includes research-based practices and examples of those practices in real schools.  There are also opportunities to participate in panel discussions, to ask experts questions, and to post your own ideas or stories.

Marco Polo

MarcoPolo  is a partnership between the MCI WorldCom Foundation and six leading educational organizations dedicated to creating and maintaining standards-based educational content on the Internet for use in schools throughout the country. This project unites the educational expertise of the MarcoPolo partners, which include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Council of the Great City Schools, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Council on Economic Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Geographic Society, to create a high-quality, credible source of Internet Content for the classroom. This content includes five discipline-specific, educational Web sites that provide online lesson plans, approved links, and other educational materials whose integrity and quality are reviewed by panels of experts and assured by the reputation of the MarcoPolo partner organizations.


John L. Mullens' Home Page

A retired secondary principal, Mr. Mullens has created this site to serve as a starting point for educators who are interested in researching educational topics on Internet. This site has been awarded Point Communication's (now Lycos) Top 5% award - no small feat!


MyClass.net

MyClass.net is a free on-line service that allows teachers to create their own class web sites with class-specific information and communication tools.  The free MyClass.net web site includes such features as email accounts teachers, students, and parents; class discussion boards for group collaboration; pages for posting class announcements and assignments; easy-to-use teacher tools for site customizing; and community boards for sharing ideas with other schools.


Mustang: A Web Cruising Vehicle

The goals of the Mustang project are: to give K12 educators a management model for integrating the World Wide Web into their curriculum; to help K12 educators design and implement Internet projects for their curriculum and graduation standards; and to provide an on-line staff development program for teachers who wish to integrate the Internet into their classroom.


NASA's Quest Project

"The Internet in the Classroom", this site is an excellent resource! It includes information on grants that focus on science, math, engineering, and educational technology (thanks for the tip, Sherri!)

From highlighting individual teachers across the nation for their efforts to providing a comprehensive list of Internet sites and information, teachersplanet.com strives to be the best for its loyal base of teachers. Their teaching supply store is unique in that it lists the industry's top teaching supplies in a convenient, organized fashion. Teachers anywhere in the world have access to whatever they need.


TeacherVision

Brought to you by FamilyEducation.com, TeacherVision offers lesson plans, resources, teachers' ideas on products, lesson plans, or challenging situations, and more.  There are several free newsletters available. This site is one you will want to visit again and again.

The Texas Center for Educational Research (TCER) is an independent, nonprofit, educational research organization established to study major issues affecting all levels and areas of Texas public education. TCER's objective is to design and produce original research and provide high-quality information resources for those who make, influence, or implement education policy in Texas.  I particularly liked their "Education Links" page - which has links of interest to all educators.


Texas Public Policy Foundation

The Foundation's mission is to improve Texas government by generating academically sound research and data on state issues, and by recommending the findings to opinion leaders, policy makers, the media and general public.
